Marcos Asai

With 22 years of experience in the Investment Banking industry in APAC, Marcos has worked in delivery of business enablement technologies. After executing as Asia-Pacific Product Manager for Distributed Computing through the JPMorgan-Chase and Bank One mergers, Marcos made a career move to become the Head of Japan IT in Barclays where his focus was to build the Equities business for the Bank. In 2014 Marcos joined BNP Paribas to be the Japan CIO to restructure the Global Markets technology. Currently Marcos has returned to J.P. Morgan to manage Japan Global Technology Infrastructure focusing on delivering IaaS and PaaS for business application modernization.

Philippe Bredel

Chief Operating Officer


Philippe is the Chief Operating Officer for CLSA Securities Japan Co., Ltd. CLSA is Asia’s leading capital markets and investment group, providing global investors with insights, liquidity and capital to drive their investment strategies. CLSA’s parent company CITIC Securities is China’s leading brokerage and investment bank. Philippe has more of twenty years of experience in Finance with broad front-to-back exposure to Equities and Fixed Income products. He holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and a Telecommunications Engineering degree from the Eurecom Institute.

Matthew Field

APAC Market Director - Anti Money Laundering


Matthew has more than 28 years’ experience in regulatory compliance, risk management, business consulting and information technology solutions. He currently heads up the AML Line of Business in Asia Pacific.  In this role Matthew meets with Actimize clients, regional regulators and industry analyst to determine the AML initiatives, trends and challenges faced by organisations in APAC.

Based in Asia for the last 20 years, he has held Executive, Partner level and senior management positions for a global risk advisory, a big four accounting firm within their risk and compliance management practice and two global providers of financial services compliance and risk management solutions. 

He has also provided advisory to clients on assessing their Compliance and Risk capability and actions to improve maturity of their frameworks. 

Matthew is a frequent speaker at industry events in the region, including OpRisk Asia, the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers’ annual banking conference, Regulation Asia and many other local and regional Risk or IA conferences.

Tatsuo Ichikawa

Director, CIO Office Quants Team

Japan Post Bank

Tatsuo is Managing Director and Head of Quant Team in Investment Division at Japan Post Bank since 2016, and he is a member of the ALM Committee. He is responsible for all quantitative analysis including asset allocation, front risk management and investment strategies as well as developing trading systems for the investment division. From 2018, he is also responsible for Rates and FX Department. Prior to joining Japan Post Bank, his career started with Morgan Stanley Japan in 1999 as Interest Rate Strategist after graduating from Graduate School of Waseda University with a Masters Degree in Mathematics.  In 2005, he joined ABN AMRO Securities Japan, which was subsequently integrated into RBS Securities Japan, as head of Japan Research.
Tatsuo rejoined Morgan Stanley Japan in October 2009 and became head of JGB/swap trading and sales desk.  He was promoted to Managing Director in 2010 and appointed Head of Japan Interest Rate Product Group. He was named Co-Head of Japan Fixed Income and appointed to a Board member of Morgan Stanley Japan Holdings in January 2013. His last role at Morgan Stanley MUFG was Head of Japan Fixed Income Trading.

While working at Japan Post Bank, Tatsuo is teaching fixed income investments and ALM strategy at Tokyo Metropolitan University where he earned PhD in Business Administration.

Masayuki Ichioka

Masayuki is the head of Tokyo Equity Operations and leading new businesses and industry-wide projects in the region. Previously, he was head of Tokyo Liquidity Operations. Masayuki joined Goldman Sachs in 2007 and was named Vice President in 2013. Before joined Goldman Sachs, Masayuki had worked in IBM Business Consulting Services KK in Japan.

Ren Kuroda

Ren is the Japan Equities COO for Mizuho Securities in Tokyo, primarily responsible for governance and optimizing processes, controls, and data management in order to increase efficiency and revenue, reduce costs, and maximize front-line control. He has over 20 years of experience in the financial markets in Tokyo across Global Markets, Investment Banking, and retail.

James Marsden

Managing Director, APAC Business Development and Strategy


James leads the Broadridge Strategy and Business Development functions across Asia Pacific. He travels the region extensively for the opportunity to meet with clients, prospects and infrastructure providers to understand market trends, regulatory change and identify opportunities for Broadridge to help firms meet their goals.

James was previously the General Manager of Broadridge’s Japan business, leading and developing the business over a period of 13 years and growing it from a small start-up phase into one of the biggest business units in Broadridge Asia.

James is a subject matter expert in post trade work-flow automation and solutions to the financial community.  He has extensive experience in building central securities depository (CSD) connectivity, having worked on local market interface development projects for JASDEC, Bank of Japan, Singapore SGX-PTS and CCASS to name a few. During his time at Broadridge he has worked in a number of roles including Project Management, Business Analysis, Architect as well as programming across multiple client implementation projects for Broadridge’s leading post trade platform Gloss.

James is based in Tokyo, and is a permanent resident of Japan.  He speaks fluent Japanese and has lived in Japan for over 18 years.

James holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Liverpool in Economics and Computer Science. 

Masaaki Matsuhashi

Ken Medanić



Ken Medanić was born and educated in Sydney, Australia. He started trading whilst enrolled at Southern Cross University, where he specialised in security analysis and portfolio management. During this time, he also started a trading partnership, focusing on trading commodity futures contracts.

In 2005 Ken began development on a new trading platform which integrated qualitative behavioural models. In 2009, he began exploring the relationship between biology, neurology, psychology, and trading results through privately-funded, empirically-based research. He defined this relationship as the “psychophysiology of trading”. 3 years later, he had clear evidence: biological responses precede trading results. NeuroTrader was born.

Ken moved to Silicon Valley, California in 2012 to obtain a better understanding of biodata collection techniques, QEEG, HRV, and artificial intelligence models. In 2015, he moved to Montreal, Canada. There, he developed relationships with equipment manufacturers, completed a four-month Olympic training programme and established a North American base. Montreal provided access to the hedge fund and banking communities of New York, Chicago, Montreal, and Toronto. In May 2018, he initiated the commercialisation phase of NeuroTrader and has since been met with eager anticipation and interest from banks and hedge funds in North America. He is currently establishing an online hedge fund with 86 traders.  

Ken presented the topic of Artificial Intelligence and its impact on fund management at the International China Hedge Fund Summit in 2017. In 2018, he spoke on the same topic at the International Investor Symposium in London, England. He has been a guest lecturer at the Rochester Institute of Technology on the topic of machine learning and its impact on the financial markets.

Ken and his wife, Michelle, have two children, 4-year-old Marie-Christine, and 2-year-old Stjepan Anthony. Currently, Ken is pursuing a Masters in Finance and Finance Law degree at the International Programme of the University of London.  

Yoshinori Nomura

Director and Fund Manager


Yoshinori manages an AI/ML driven investment strategy. Yoshinori has a master’s degree in nonlinear statistical physics from Waseda University and is a regular member of The Japan Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI).

Kazunari Ohashi

Representative Director and Head of Legal and Risk


Mr. Ohashi is a graduate of Tokyo University, later studied at Harvard Law School, and is an attorney at law from the New York State Bar. He started his career with the Bank of Japan where he was based in the Financial System Department. Following that he did a secondment as a Senior Economist at the IMF, before returning to the Bank of Japan as a Director of the Bank Supervision Department. He has subsequently held senior level positions within 3 other financial institutions before joining CLSA, Japan in 2018 as the Head of Compliance.

His publications include "Japan’s Distressed-Debt Market” (May 2004, IMF Working Paper), "A Case for Reforming the JGB Market” (July 1998, Bank of Japan Working Paper), "Experiences of Three Eastern European Countries During the Russian Crisis – An Analysis of “Contagion’” ( March 1999, Bank of Japan Working Paper)”.

Satoki Oi

In previous roles Satoki has been responsible for business development and start up investment in Silicon Valley and has more than 20years of professional banking experiences including creating new business.

Allan Reyes

Managing Director, Head of Technology Solutions


Allan Reyes is currently Managing Director-Head of Technology Solutions for Nikko Asset Management. Allan is responsible for the development and support of business systems and platforms for Nikko Asset Management’s offices around the globe. Before joining Nikko in December 2017, Allan was the Head of Investments Technology for MetLife Japan for more than 6 years. He formed MetLife's 1st Investments Technology Unit outside the US Head Office. Prior to MetLife, he was responsible for managing the development of and support for various applications for back and middle office systems at BNP Paribas Securities, Japan. Allan holds a Master of Engineering in Information and Computer Science from the Toyohashi University of Technology, and is fluent in Japanese and English.

Michael Ross

Michael Ross is the Managing Director, Head of Sales at Broadridge in Japan. He has a proven track record of delivering value to clients in Japan.  He has a strong technical IT background combined with successful sales management experience and a deep understanding of Japanese culture and language.

Kojiro Sakai

Chief Compliance Officer


Kojiro is the Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Risk Officer for the Jibun Bank. He was formerly responsible for credit risk management for MUFG. He holds the bachelor’s degree from the University of Tokyo.

Yutaka Sakurai


AI Finance Application Research Institute

Yutaka Sakurai is data science and AI expert with a strong background in Financial theory and practice. After more than twenty years' experience of fund manager, trader and quant in Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and Sony Bank, he became a managing director of Research and Pricing Technology Inc.  in 2010. He started AI Finance Application Research Institute in 2017. He published a number of books on Finance and AI.

Ryusuke Sato

Head of Data Science


Sato is the head of data science for the Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc.

He engages in data science utilization and promotion of data driven business decision making.

After completing graduate school, he worked as a chief data scientist at an IT Vender.

After that, he led the group as a leader of the AI solution group at a smartphone game company, and then took charge of the COO of an AI specialized subsidiary.

Makoto Shibata

Executive Fellow


Until Sep. 2018, Mr. Shibata was leading MUFG Bank’s R&D initiatives in emerging technology and planning of FinTech initiatives, innovation, and online / mobile financial services. He worked in the digital banking area for 20 years and he was involved in a wide range of projects in both retail and wholesale customers. His previous career in banking, starting at The Bank of Tokyo, includes Corporate Planning, Accounting, Corporate Finance, and Retail Customer Services.

From Oct. 2018, he has become Executive Fellow of JDD, innovation entity of MUFG. And he conducted research on FinTech as an Academic Visitor at University of Oxford until Mar. 2019.

Mr. Shibata is an active speaker on various topics, including Payment, Channel Management, Mobile Finance, Innovation and FinTech in many conferences, including for Bank of Japan, Tokyo Stock Exchange, BAI, EFMA, Gartner, Celent, MIT, Money 20/20, Finovate, Singapore FinTech Festival and SWIFT. He has also served as a judge panel for various innovation contests, including EFMA Accenture Innovation Awards, Future Ideas, and FIBC.

He has been involved in FinTech community in Tokyo from the early days and became a cofounder of Finovators, pro bono mentor group, to support fintech hub, Finolab Tokyo.

He holds a Bachelor of Economics from University of Tokyo and a Master of Science in Development Economics from University of Oxford.

Tatsuya Shirakawa

Tatsuya is the senior digital strategist for the Mizuho Bank, Ltd., where he joined recently after more than five years in the manufacturing industry in IoT and AI.
In previous roles Tatsuya has been responsible for development of new IoT business.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Tokyo.

Yutaka Soejima

Head of FinTech Center, Deputy Director-General of Payment and Settlement Systems Department


Yutaka SOEJIMA is a head of Fintech Center and Deputy Director-General of Payment and Settlement Systems Department in the Bank of Japan.  He joined the Bank in 1990 and mainly worked in research sections covering financial markets, bank supervision, macro prudence, financial engineering, risk management, payment and settlement systems and economic developments.  Some of his studies applied state-of-the-art technologies to central bank business such as AI, high frequency data analysis, artificial markets simulation, social network analysis and geographic information study.  He engaged in the launch of BOJ’s flagship reports of “Financial System Report” and “Market Review”, a forerunner of “BOJ Review”.  He holds a MA in Economics from University of Washington and a BA from Kyoto University.

Ken Utsunomiya

Managing Director, Global Chief Operating Officer for Wholesale


Ken started his career at Nippon Credit Bank in 1996, he then joined Mizuho Securities in 1999 to be in charge of BOJ RTGS project as well as securities back office replacement project. He moved to BNP Paribas in 2000 to be in charge of Project Manager/ Business Analyst for Middle / Back System then seconded to BNP Paribas London between 2004-2006 to be in charge of PM/BA for the implementation of Global Repo Trading Platform. He returned to Japan as the head of Operations in 2006 then added multiple responsibilities over 6 years to be in charge of Derivatives Middle Office, Client Management, Banking activities such as Structured Finance, Trade Finance, Payment and ALM Treasury as the head of Operations in BNP Paribas Securities and BNP Paribas Tokyo branch since 2006. After that IT Division was also added in his responsibility on top of Operation roles in order to cover IT Infrastructure, IT Security, Fixed Income, Equity and Back Office system. It should be noted that he was also working for JGBCC as a statutory auditor to support. 

Ken joined Societe Generale Japan as a Chief Operating Officer for Securities, Bank and Lyxor Asset Management and Aircraft Leasing in 2012. His main achievements were 1)  merger between Newedge and SocGen to be Japanese incorporated entity, 2) Office Move with award winning of JFMA (Japan Facility Management Association)  to improve a working place with innovative ideas and 3) accomplished various projects to be top tier for flow business including back office system replacement from the view of front-to-back.

He joined Mizuho Securities since July 2018 to set up global infrastructure with multi asset class as Global COO to seek for global business.

Suguru Yamasaki

Head of Open Innovation


Suguru is in charge of open innovation of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, where he endeavors to build long-term strategy to not only innovate existing offerings of SMFG but also introduce latest technologies of startups such as in Silicon Valley to Asian markets through partnerships with various startups and venture capitals.

Prior to his career in SMFG, he had been working as a manager in a Japanese strategy consulting firm where he led number of projects for major Japanese corporation regarding new business development and corporate strategies utilizing latest IT such as cloud and IoT.

Eiichiro Yanagawa

Eiichiro Yanagawa is a senior analyst with Celent’s Banking practice and is based in Tokyo.

Eiichiro's research focuses on IT strategy issues in the Japanese and Asian banking and financial industries. His recent research has included core banking systems, ATMs, and anti-money laundering technology, and focused on the technologies driving disruption in three areas: innovation, digital, and legacy and ecosystem transformation. He was responsible for developing NEC’s core banking system, strategic marketing planning, and consulting on financial institution systems.

Prior to that, Eiichiro was the General Manager of the Financial Services Division at NEC Corporation of America in New York. In this role, he worked on the development of IT strategy and advised clients, mainly Japanese financial institutions, on outsourcing and selection of software packages.

Eiichiro earned his Bachelor of Economics from Shizuoka University and his MBA at Hitotsubashi University Graduate School of Commerce and Management.

Shun Yanagisawa

Head of Futures, Clearing and Collateral


Shun Yanagisawa is the Japan Head of Futures, Clearing and Collateral business. With 17 years’ industry experience, Mr. Yanagisawa regularly participates in public round-tables including ISDA annual conference and serves for multiple industry groups including interest rate swap steering committee and listed derivatives reform working group at JSCC etc. and help advocate stability for the Derivatives Clearing ecosystem.

Ryusuke Yokoyama

Ryusuke Yokoyama, Senior Executive Officer & CIO of Japan Exchange Group, Inc. (JPX), joined Tokyo Stock Exchange in April 1986. After serving as Director of IT Business Department, he became an Executive Officer of Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. (TSE) in April 2011. He assumed the current position at JPX in April 2017 and since then has concurrently served as Senior Executive Officer of TSE and Senior Executive Officer of Osaka Exchange, Inc. (current position). He was appointed in April 2019 as Director & Senior Executive Officer of TSE (current position). He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Economics from Waseda University.

Hikaru Yoshida

Managing Director, Member of the Board, Head of Operations & IT Unit


Hikaru Yoshida is the managing director and the head of Operations & IT Unit for The Norinchukin Bank. He took up the general manager of IT & Systems Planning Div. in 2016 and leads Operations & IT Unit as the head from June of 2018. This Systems Department of the division has the obligations and responsibilities for building and stable management of, both JASTEM system which supports “JA Bank System” and The Norinchukin Bank’s various computer systems, including the core banking system. The department contributes to members of JA Bank and other customers by providing through the provision of these IT infrastructures.

Prior to that, he has occupied management, planning, and promotion roles with “JA Bank System” since he joined The Norinchukin Bank in 1990. “JA Bank” is a financial group that The Norinchukin Bank, together with each region’s JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperatives) and JA Shinnoren (Prefectural Banking Federations of Agricultural Cooperatives) forms a variety of services in the Retail Business.
