NAFIS 2023 Letter from Tony

NAFIS 2023 Letter from Tony

Hello,

I’m not going to waste your time telling you about the particular details of this year’s North American Financial Information Summit—you can read the agenda for that. Rather, I’d like to discuss our thinking behind the agenda, which is based off articles we’ve written and discussions with our advisory board.

There’s a relentless push to the cloud by banksasset managersexchanges and vendors. Trading firms are becoming more comfortable with open-source tools and protocols. APIs are becoming the preferred way to connect to data sources and external software, while new tools that provide context around a sea of data are flooding the market. And it’s easier to provide that context if systems are interoperable and if AI is used to augment these efforts. Those are just the highlights.

But at the end of the day, it’s the day-to-day that keeps most data professionals awake at night. How are we going to satisfy regulatory obligations? How do we handle talent acquisition and retention? How do we secure the budget to solve problems holistically, rather than with popsicle sticks and Band-Aids? Is our so-called “data-driven culture” that we established seeing ROI?

Data quality, lineage, timeliness, accuracy, and completeness—these are essential to run an efficient organization, but they are all-too-often overlooked or misunderstood.

On May 16, 2024, we’ll be discussing all these issues and more. I hope to see you there! If you have questions or thoughts about ways to improve the event, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me: anthony.malakian@infopro-digital.com.

Sincerely,
Anthony Malakian
